MICRO CO-GENERATION

| Small scale co-generation, or co-gen, uses a gas fired generator to produce electricity while utilizing the heat byproduct. This technology has been in use in large scale industrial processes for decades but until recently was not cost competitive for small scale uses. A significant portion of the electricity produced at the power plant is lost in transmission. By producing the power on site the amount of carbon released is greatly reduced. Using the heat byproduct reduces the amount of fuel consumed by a buildings complementary heating system. The correct application of this technology is essential to make the investment worthwhile. Co-gen is ideal where a large heat or hot water demand exists. |
